Rhododendron adamsii = synonym for fragrans - plant of the genus rhododendron.

On the territory of the Russian Far East is found on the coast of the sea of Okhotsk, the Schmidt Peninsula (Sakhalin). In addition, widespread in Eastern and Western Sayan, Khamar-Daban range, Barguzin mountain range, North-Eastern foothills of Tibet.

Grows at the upper boundary of mountain forests in the highlands on the rocky slopes. Splayed branched shrub height up to 0.5 m with glandular-scaly, hairy shoots. The leaves are evergreen, oblong-elliptic, length from 1 to 2 cm in width from 0.5 to 1 cm, tight, top, naked, Matt green, red bottom because of thick scales. The flowers are pink or pale pink, 1.5 cm in diameter, assembled in plates 7 to 15 flowers. Blooms in June - August. Rhododendron adamsii listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Buryatia.

The leaves are used for herbal tea and for their hallucinogenic effects: Leaves of SAGAN-DA-LI (the Mongolian name) contain high level of ether oils and rarely studied alkaloids which produce hallucinogenic effects connected with changing in perception of colours.

The content of main flavonoids from Rhododendron adamsii (fragrans). R. leaves and stems was determined quantitatively using HPLC. It was found that myricetin and quercetin dominated the identified compounds (myricetin, quercetin, dihydroquercetin, rutin) in leaves; dihydroquercetin, in stems (1.1, 1.0, and 2.5 mass% of raw material, respectively). Dihydroquercetin and rutin were found for the first time in R. adamsii (fragrans).
