Dryas ajanensis is a dwarf shrub with branching prostrate woody stems, forming loose pads. The leaves are oblong-elliptic, serrated along the edge, green above, glabrous with depressed point glands, whitish below, brown hairs on the veins and petioles. The flowers are white, up to 3 cm in diameter, with 6-12 petals and a bunch of stamens on peduncles up to 11 cm long. Fruits with long pinnately pubescent awns are dark red up to 4 cm long. Blooms from June to mid-July. Fruiting in July-August.
It is distributed almost throughout the Northern hemisphere - in the Arctic and the highlands of the temperate zone.

The General range is Mongolia, North-Eastern China, Korea, Japan, the USA (Alaska) and Canada (Yukon). It is common in the Kamchatka territory, grows mainly in the subalpine zone in the highlands - on mountain shrub tundra, rocky slopes and rocks, and rises to 1620 m above sea level.
