Pyrola chlorantha

Green-flowered wintergreen is a non-grain plant. All leaves are basal, small, with long petioles equal in length to the blade or exceeding it; the plate is round, sometimes broadly elliptic or broadly ovate, entire or slightly crenate, usually 1.5-2.5 cm long, green, glaucous on the lower surface. Stems erect, 10-20 (25) cm tall. Flowers are few in number, in a versatile brush. Sepals are small, 1-1.5 mm long, ovate-triangular, pressed to the corolla, green, with light margins. Corolla cupped greenish-white, up to 1.5 cm in diameter, petals obovate, b.m. equal in length to pedicels. Anthers with horns, greenish-yellow. Ovary with a curved 6-7 mm long column protruding from the corolla, which gradually thickened upward and ends with a disc with a 5-lobed stigma.

 

Green-flowered wintergreen grows in pine and pine-birch herbaceous or lingonberry forests, mainly in the southern taiga and subtaiga.
