Grows in Russia (Sakhalin, usually; Kuril Islands all Islands, Okhotsk sea, Kamchatka, the Arctic), the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu), Korea, China. Grows in meadows of the sea coast, mountain slopes, sometimes comes on rocks and scree.

Dioecious perennial plant from 30 to 150 cm tall, with thick drevesnim rhizome. Leaves tweakability, with usavalue or oval-rounded leaflets. The inflorescence is a panicle up to 20 cm tall, compact, multifloral, little branched. Blooms in July - August, and the seeds ripen in September.

Can be used in parks, in public places and in partial shade. On Sakhalin Ainu spring boiled and soaked young shoots, preparing a tasty dish (Ishiyama, 1936).

Aruncus kamtschaticus is a widespread species in Japan, but this accession came from central Hokkaido at 2,000' elevation thanks to our plant explorer friend Tom Mitchell, who discovered it fraternizing in the wild with Cardiocrinum cordatum.
